Open Wireless Architecture (OWA) technology, chief strategic advisor of
global 3G/B3G/4G and consulting professor of Stanford University. He
is/was senior principal wireless architect and vice president in Infineon Technologies (SIEMENS Microelectronics) and
visiting guest professor in Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has extensive research, publication,
consulting, and industrial experiences in the design and analysis of advanced
emerging wireless
telecommunication systems and networks, computer communication systems, local,
metropolitan, and wide area communications networks, marketing analysis and
strategies. He
has profound expertise in the implementation of software
definable base station technology, wireless mobile ATM technology, third generation mobile communications,
broadband wireless access, wireless mobile Internet, open wireless & mobile platform,
converged broadband wireless core and high-speed packet division multiplex
as well as All-IP network
interconnections. Prof.Lu was also the chairman of Wireless
Mobile ATM Task Force, CDMA Technical Forum and 3Gwireless Technical Forum,
etc , technical teams of telecommunications and wireless
communications experts who develop and implement the next generation wireless multimedia
systems. He also founded the world's first Fourth Generation Mobile Forum
(4GMF) to
initiate the research on "Beyond 3G" wireless mobile
communications. Previously, Prof. Lu served as a guest scientist of German
National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD) in Berlin of
Germany. His other work
had involved the design of USA CDMA system in Nortel,
wireless data network in NTT, multimedia
communications in MIMOS of Malaysia and digital switching system in MPT of
China, etc. Willie is very highly accredited and an invited technical advisor by many telecom industries in USA and
Europe as well as special advisor for many ICT authorities in the world.
Since 2001, he has become a chief technical advisor of some world's leading
mobile communication operators on emerging wireless technical strategies.
Prof. Lu is an IEEE senior member
and served as general or technical chairman of the IEEE Globecom'2003, IEEE VTC'2003,
IEEE Globecom' 2000/ 2001/ 2002 Broadband Wireless Symposium,

Congress 2002-2006; and has organized many other workshops and symposia. Willie
has been a member of technical program committee of over 100 major international technical
conferences. He has served as IEEE reviewer on network architecture and
switching systems, wireless mobile ATM, 3G wireless, 4G mobile and
broadband wireless access systems for over 10 years, and has contributed over 150 publications in IEEE, IEICE, ACM, etc. He
has been a principal guest editor of over 40 IEEE/IEICE Special Issues on wmATM, 3Gwireless,
4Gmobile, OWA, broadband wireless and wireless mobile Internet, etc in IEEE
Communications Magazine; in IEEE Wireless Communications, in ACM/Baltzer Journal
of Wireless Network; in ACM/Baltzer Journal of
Mobile Networks and Applications; in Computer Network; in IEICE Trans. on
Communications; in IEEE Network Magazine; in Proceedings of the IEEE and IEEE Journal of Selected Areas in
Communications, etc. Willie was the founding chairman of IEEE 3Gwireless
conference which now becomes the world's famous World Wireless Congress.
Prof. Lu was/is also a voting member of
SIGMA XI, ACM as well as IEICE
Japan, CIC/CIE China, and has been listed in numerous editions of The Marquis Who's Who for telecommunications
advancement and the expert committee of technical evaluation by European Commission.
Prof. Lu sits in the editorial board of IEEE Spectrum - the flag of IEEE, in
view of his authoritative position in the field. Willie is also the
feature editor of wireless communications series in IEEE
Communications Magazine and IEEE Trans. on Wireless Communications. He is also a part-time supervisor and external academic examiner on doctorate programme for lots of leading universities and institutions all over the world. Due to his
remarkable contributions in wireless communications, Prof.Lu was elected to "The Outstanding People of the
20th Century" by the famous Cambridge IBC of England. He was also member of
